CINCINNATI (AP) – Ohio’s governor says he’s not going to use “hot rhetoric” or campaign promises that won’t be kept to stand out in the crowded GOP field.
John Kasich said in an interview shown Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he is pointing to his experience and capability in the campaign he officially launched last week in Columbus.
The second-term governor and former congressman says candidates who promise to immediately rip up the Barack Obama administration’s nuclear agreement with Iran are “just playing to a crowd.” But he is critical of the deal and wants to keep economic pressure on Iran.
Kasich also declined to assess billionaire businessman Donald Trump’s early popularity in GOP polls. Kasich says his own poll numbers aren’t great, so he wants to talk about himself.
