CLEVELAND – Governor John Kasich says he’ll be in Cleveland for the duration of the Republican National Convention, but he isn’t sure if he’ll go inside.
The former presidential contender said Wednesday he plans on arriving a day before the convention begins on July 18 to help oversee security.
Kasich hasn’t endorsed one-time rival and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump. He also says he didn’t ask for a chance to speak at the convention and was never offered a speaking slot.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who is among those being vetted for the job of vice-presidential candidate joined Trump on Wednesday for a rally in Cincinnati.
Gingrich told the crowd that, while other candidates promise to change Washington, Trump will “kick over the table.”
Trump said, if he chooses Gingrich as a running-mate, no one will be able to beat him in a debate.
Kasich has kept a low profile since suspending his presidential campaign in May.
He appeared in suburban Cleveland Wednesday to announce that a $280 million project to build a new bridge on Interstate 480 is being moved up two years.
It’s Ohio’s busiest bridge, with 180,000 vehicles a day.
