COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s First Family chose a 10-foot Canaan fir from a Fairfield County farm to be put on display at the Governor’s official residence in Bexley, according to the office of First Lady Karen Kasich.
The Kasichs visited the Albert Family Tree Farm in Amanda this past weekend to select their live tree.
“Visiting the tree farm is a special trip for our family, and one that we look forward to every year. Not only has it become a wonderful tradition, but we always leave there with an awesome Christmas tree and an afternoon full of great memories,” said Karen Kasich.
The Albert family has been providing a live tree for the Governor’s mansion for more than 30 years.
The Canaan fir is a popular species for the holidays because its needles are short and rounded with a dark green topside and silver accent underneath. Its sturdy branches are well suited for displaying a variety of beautiful ornaments handmade by Ohio artisans, the First Lady said.
Volunteers have been hanging decorations at the resident since the second week of November.
Holiday tours are available free of charge on Tuesdays and Wednesdays through December 17 by reservation only.
