COLUMBUS – Donn Roach scattered six hits over as many innings of shutout baseball as Charlotte knocked of the Clippers, 6-2, in the first game of a three-game series at BB&T Ballpark Tuesday night.
Roach (8-2) struck out nine hitters on the way to getting the win.
Leury Garcia hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to help the Knights.
Starter Ryan Merritt (0-1) took the loss for the Clippers, who rallied for a run in the eighth and ninth innings.
The two teams meet up for game 2 Wednesday night.
