COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a furious rally the Clippers saw the game slip away, along with the chance to split a series on the road, as the Charlotte Knights won the last game of a four-game series 8-7 Thursday night.
Trayce Thompson’s RBI single off reliever Shawn Armstrong (0-2) broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Knights the win.
Trailing 7-1 heading into the seventh inning, the Clippers scored six unanswered runs, two in the seventh and four in the ninth, highlighted by James Ramsey’s three-run homerun to right field. Audy Ciriaco drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the score.
Columbus was one out away from extra innings when Ciriaco dropped Thompson’s pop foul ball at first and Thompson hit a fly ball to center field, bringing Tyler Saladino, who had reached third base on a wild pitch by Armstrong.
The Clippers open a three-game weekend series at Gwinnett Friday night.
