UPDATE 8/25/22 7:18 a.m.: This article has been updated after police released the name of the suspect.

Deputies shot the 41-year-old woman Monday night after she refused commands to come out of a home and at one point broke a window and fired a shotgun multiple times at the officers, Sheriff David Shaffer said.

RELATED: Authorities say more than 1,000 firearms and more than 140,000 rounds of ammunition were seized from a Mt. Vernon-area property where a standoff ended with law enforcement shooting and killing two brothers on Saturday.

The latest incident happened when deputies responded to a report that a woman, identified as Elizabeth Delano, was trying to force her way into a home on Zuck Road in Butler Township at approximately 8:31 p.m., Shaffer said.

When deputies arrived, along with officers from the Danville and Mount Vernon police departments, they discovered the woman had entered the house and refused to come outside.

At one point she broke a window, pointed a shotgun toward the officers and fired multiple times before a deputy fired a single shot, striking the woman, Shaffer said.

The woman was taken to Knox Community Hospital where she died.

Delano had previously lived at the residence, but had not resided there in several weeks, Shaffer said..

Shaffer says his office requested assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.

No injuries in Columbus officer-involved shooting

Columbus detectives are investigating an incident in which an officer fired their weapon while chasing two suspects following a disturbance on the Southwest Side Monday night, police division spokesman Sgt. Joe Albert said.

Officers dispatched to 3666 Eakin Road at approximately 8:51 p.m. on a report of a disturbance involving multiple people at that location saw two males run around the outside of the building, Albert said.

During a short foot pursuit, one officer discharged their firearm at least one time, though no one was struck by any rounds.

One of the males involved later complained of shortness of breath and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released, Albert said.

Officers took a juvenile and two adult men into custody and recovered four firearms at the scene, Albert said.

No charges had been filed early Tuesday and detectives with the Columbus Division of Police Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the incident.
