Komen Columbus Race For The Cure

COLUMBUS – The organizers expect to see plenty of pink tiaras in the field as the 26th annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure coincides with the royal wedding between Meghan Markle and Britain’s Prince Harry Saturday.

Schedule of events:
8:00 a.m. – Expo and SurvivorPalooza opens
9:00 a.m. – Survivor Ceremony on feature honorary Race Chair and Metastatic breast cancer survivor Liz Miesen, Julia Cygan, daughter of former WBNS-10TV anchor Heather Pick, and over 1,500 breast cancer survivors.
9:45 a.m. – 5K Run/Walk
10:00 a.m. – Family Fun Walk
Registration: Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; 3:00 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Komen Columbus Headquarters at 929 Eastwind Dr., Ste. 211, Westerville
Online registration for individuals until noon Friday
Race Day registration: Vern Riffe Center, 77 S. High Street, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

More than 25,000 runners and walkers participated last year and Katie Carter, executive director of Komen Columbus, says this year’s event is on track to once again be the largest Komen Race for the Cure in the U.S.

The race will start on N. Front Street, adjacent to City Hall, travel north to Goodale Avenue, then through the streets of west downtown to the finish line at Columbus Commons.

Post-race entertainment the popular Thunder Tunnel, more than 300 Harley Davidson motorcycles revving their engines; drum lines and cheer teams from area schools and DJ’s, Carter said.
