COLUMBUS – City officials and community leaders are asking for the public’s help locating the suspects in a shooting, which police call an “assassination,” that claimed the lives of two young children and a 22-year-old man outside a Southeast Side apartment complex Tuesday night.
Police say the three victims were seated in a vehicle when two armed suspects approached and opened fire “without any apparent warning or provocation” and a third suspect drove the shooters away.
Investigators and police officials say the shooting was not a random act.
Nine-year-old Demitrius Wall’neal, his 6-year-old sister, Londynn, and 22-year-old Charles Wade were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police and city leaders called on the public to help end gun violence.
“Two babies were killed last night. Whoever did this are cowards and need to be found, arrested, and held accountable,” Columbus City Council president Shannon Hardin said in a statement.
“Someone has information about this murder – I’m asking you to look yourself in the mirror and ask if you’re okay with this! You need to come forward now,” he said.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Columbus police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
