COLUMBUS, Ohio – Leaves are changing to their fall colors in most of Ohio and the state is again providing a way for leaf-peepers to keep track of the prime viewing spots.
The Oct. 1 weekly update from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources shows trees in every region of the state changing color, except for those in the northwest and south.
“Many maple and ash trees are welcoming us into this year’s fall color season. The white ash trees are showing dark purples while the green ash trees glow with vibrant yellows and golden oranges,” ODNR fall color forester Casey Burdick said. “Various maples, especially along the edges of woods and in urban areas, are showing some early color; dogwoods are also showing some awesome dark reds.”

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources fall colors website includes weekly color updates, Burdick’s videos of color hot spots and links for fall activities and overnight accommodations at state parks.
ODNR and TourismOhio is encouraging Ohioans to upload their own fall color photos to social media using the hashtag #ohiofall14. The department is offering a Best of Ohio Fall 14 Photo Contest on Instagram (@OHstateparks). Use the hashtag #ohiofall14 and you will automatically be entered into the contest to win prizes, which include a four-person tent from REI, a Hocking Hills Canopy Tours Zip Line Adventure and overnight stays at state park lodges.
