COLUMBUS – Buckeyes were plentiful on the All-Big Ten defensive and special teams announced Tuesday.
Four from Ohio State’s defense earned first-team all-conference honors with defensive end Tyquan Lewis and senior punter Cameron Johnston were each named major award winners.
Nine additional players earned second- and third-team or honorable mention status on either the coaches’ team, the media team or both.
Lewis, a junior from Tarboro, N.C., was named the league’s Smith-Brown defensive lineman of the year and Johnston, from Geelong, Australia, was awarded the Eddleman-Fields punter of the year award.
Lewis led Ohio State’s defense with 27 total tackles 7.5 quarterback sacks and 10 tackles for losses totaling 57 yards, along with three forced fumbles and two pass deflections.
Johnston, a Ray Guy Award finalist, will own virtually all of the Ohio State punting average and inside-the-20 records at the conclusion of his career.
Safety Malik Hooker, linebacker Raekwon McMillan, the team’s leading tackler this season with 87, and cornerback Marshon Lattimore, were also named to the all-conference first team by either the coaches or the media panels.
Offensive award winners will be named Wednesday.
