COLUMBUS – Thirsty Pennsylvanians can no longer cross into Ohio to buy liquor, at least not without driving a little farther west.
To prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, in-person sale of liquor in a half-dozen eastern and southeastern Ohio counties is now restricted only to Ohio residents, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday.
Pennsylvania closed its state-owned liquor stores March 16 to slow the spread of COVID-19 and border counties in West Virginia recently prohibited sales of liquor to persons who do not have West Virginia identification.
DeWine says this has pushed people into Ohio’s border counties to purchase liquor, creating an “unacceptable public health issue.”
To buy liquor in Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana,, Jefferson and Belmont counties, you must present a valid Ohio photo identification or military photo ID.
