The national average price of gas has experienced the longest consecutive period of decline since 2008, according to the AAA. Analysts say gas prices will likely remain low through the end of the year amid decreased demand and lower crude oil prices.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Columbus was $2.83 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s a4-cent increase from a week ago, but is 12 cents cheaper than two weeks ago, 32 cents less expensive than a month ago at this time and 39 cents lower than a year ago.

The statewide average price of $2.87 was up 3 cents from a week ago but 26 cents less than last month.

Monday’s national average was $2.89 per gallon, which is 4 cents lower than last week and a quarter less than a month ago.
