The Buckeyes slipped to No. 2, followed by Clemson and Georgia in the selection committee’s second top 25.
Alabama fell to fifth.
Penn State – the Buckeyes’ opponent on Nov. 23 — lost 31-26 at Minnesota and fell from fourth to ninth while the unbeaten Gophers climbed nine spots to eighth, the largest one-week jump in the six-year history of the College Football Playoff.
Oregon was sixth and fellow Pac-12 team Utah was seventh.
The final rankings and pairings for the CFP semifinal will be revealed Dec. 8.
