COLUMBUS, Ohio – A near-riot at a mall and a triple shooting can both be traced to the popularity of some new shoes.
Dozens of people smashed down the doors of the Eastland Mall just to win the right to buy the newest pair of Air Jordans. Columbus police say crowds ripped the mall’s doors off their hinges yesterday to be the first to get vouchers from the Champs Sports store. No injuries were reported.
Two teenage women and an 18-year-old man were hurt when a shady online offer of new Air Jordans went wrong.
Columbus police say officers called to a home in the 900 block of Oakwood Avenue home Saturday afternoon found Brien Turner, Sabrina Peck and Briana Granger outside the home, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Detectives say the three were meeting each other and someone else to finalize a sale of Air Jordan shoes when the suspect the victims’ money and shot them.
Peck, 19, was shot in her right upper thigh, Turner, 18, was shot in the abdomen and Granger, 18, was shot in her right lower back, police said.
Peck and Turner were taken to the hospital while Granger drove herself. All three were listed in stable condition, according to police.
