Man accused of running over son faces immigration problems

MARYSVILLE, Ohio – A man accused of running over his four-year-old son and killing him has pleaded not guilty and had his bond reduced, but Natividad de Jesus Hernandez is not likely to be free anytime soon.

U.S. Immigration officials say they’ll likely pick him up for being an illegal alien.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an incident in which authorities say he killed his 4-year-old son by accidentally running over him with his van. A judge on Thursday also reduced bond for Hernandez to $100,000.

Hernandez, 30, was charged with leaving the scene without speaking to authorities after his son fell out of the van. Authorities later charged him with stealing from the construction site where the Dec. 26 accident happened.

He’s also charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter and two counts of forgery.

Hernandez’s attorney, Scott Culbert, denies his client was stealing. He says that the charges will be fought at trial and that Hernandez has suffered enough.
