Man arrested in connection with woman’s burned body

UPPER ARLINGTON – A man is in jail, charged in connection with the death of a woman whose burned body was found at Upper Arlington’s Burbank Park earlier this month.

Mohamed Abdullahi was arrested for drunk driving early Monday morning after being stopped for a traffic violation, Ofc. Bryan McKean, Upper Arlington Police Division community relations officer, said.

Abdullahi, 27, had been a person of interest in the suspicious death of Bobbie Renee Simpson and McKean says he has been charged with felony arson and abuse of a corpse and, after being questioned by investigators, was taken to the Franklin County Jail where he is being held while the case is turned over to a grand jury.

The body of the 23-year-old Simpson was found on the morning of Oct. 14 near a walking trail in the area of Burbank Park where a fire had been reported by a passerby.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office says there was trauma to Simpson’s body before it was placed in a container and set on fire. The cause of death hasn’t been determined.
