COLUMBUS – Columbus police caught up with the suspect in the city’s latest homicide within hours of the death of his alleged victim.

SWAT officers arrested Connie Lee Genous within an hour of a murder charge being filed against him in connection with a fatal shooting on a South Side street, said Sgt. Jeff Strayer of the Homicide Unit.
Officers called to the intersection of Lockbourne Road and E. Markison Avenue on the report of a shooting at approximately 6:43 p.m. Thursday, found Domenique Draughn, 32, in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Strayer said. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Grant Medical Center.
Investigators say Draughn and some of his family members knew Genous, 67, but to what extent is still under investigation, Strayer said.
This is the 92nd homicide in Columbus in 2017.
