SWAT officers arrested Darryl Lee, 59, on the West Side on a charge of murder in connection with the death of Deloris Williams, whose body was found in an SUV parked outside the Rhoads Commons Apartments on Gault Street, Sgt. Dave Sicilian of the homicide unit said.

Officers were dispatched to the apartment building at 1:15 p.m. to investigate a report of a possible body inside of a vehicle, Sicilian said.

Sicilian says detectives summoned to the scene believed the body was inside of a black SUV parked behind 1800 Gault Street. The owner of the vehicle could not be located so detectives called fire personnel to assist with entering the vehicle and to check on the condition of the person inside, he said.

Williams, 51, was found in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, Sicilian said.

Police did not release a cause of death.

This is the 34th Homicide in Columbus in 2017.
