COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police say no charges will be filed against a man who says he shot another man to death in self-defense in Northeast Side parking lot late Friday night.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired near the intersection of of Cleveland Avenue and E. Dublin Granville Road just before 11:10 p.m. found Brent Patterson, in the parking lot in front of 5650 Kathy Run Lane, detectives said.
Patterson, 49, died approximately 40 minutes later at Riverside Methodist Hospital, police said.
Investigators say Paul Dixon II, 38, cooperated with detectives and claims he shot Patterson in self-defense. The investigation continues.
This is the 79th homicide of 2014 in Columbus.
