COLUMBUS – There was no letup over the weekend in the rash of gun violence that has plagued the streets of Columbus this summer.
One person was killed and 10 others, including a 4-year-old child, were injured in at least eight separate shooting incidents between Friday morning and early Monday, Columbus police said.
A shooting in the 1300 block of Trailway Street on the Northeast Side just after 5:00 a.m. Friday left a 46-year-old man dead and two other people, including the suspect, injured, Homicide Unit Sgt. Doug Jones said.
Morris Bryant IV, 32, was charged with murder in the death of Bernard Anderson after officers found Anderson and Tanisha Waters, 27, suffering from gunshot wounds. Jones says Bryant was also injured during the incident and walked into a fire station before being taken to OSU Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.
This was the 75th homicide of 2020 in Columbus.
A 4-year-old was grazed by a bullet and a 19-year-old woman shot in her face and upper torso when someone opened fire on a birthday celebration on the South Side late Sunday night, according to the Columbus Division of Police Twitter feed. Another adult was injured by shattered glass, and bullets also struck four vehicles and a house in the incident in the 1500 block of Jonathan Drive just before 10:25 p.m.
Five people were shot in a span of less than 12 hours Saturday and Sunday, including a 47-year woman who was listed in critical condition after being shot in the 1900 block of Cleveland Avenue just before 6:00 p.m. by what witnesses described as a black male who was firing a gun in multiple directions.
A 30-year-old man was under arrest on a charge of felonious assault after police say he shot a longtime friend in the legs after dropping him off at the 32-year-old victim’s home on N. Guilford Avenue in Franklinton just before 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
ShotSpotter alerted officers to an incident where an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg while walking to his vehicle in the area of Seymour and Livingston avenues on the East Side just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
A 59-year-old man was listed in critical condition after being shot in the head just after 10:00 p.m. in the 200 block of Avondale Avenue in Franklinton and a 22-year-old man was shot in the 300 block of S. Weyant Avenue on the East Side just before 12:28 a.m. Sunday, police said.
A man was in critical condition after being shot at the Water’s Edge apartments near Refugee Road and Winding Creek just before 1:00 Monday morning, according to the division’s Twitter feed.
