COLUMBUS – A man killed inside an East Side apartment Thursday afternoon is the 80th person to be murdered in Columbus this year and the third in less than 24 hours.
Detectives say Christopher Catching and another man were involved in a dispute and, when Catching went to the apartment on Berwick Arms Place shortly before 5:30 p.m. to confront the other man, the suspect produced a firearm and shot the 29-year-old Catching to death, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Catching was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police did not release any information about the suspect in the case.
Two men were killed in a triple shooting on the West Side Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old was listed in critical condition at Grant Medical Center after being shot while riding in a car on the East Side Thursday night, Marable said.
The teen was the passenger in a car in the 800 block of S. Weyant Avenue at 6:20 p.m. when the initial investigation indicates that an armed man began following the car, Marable said. The driver tried to get away but the man began shooting, wounding the victim.
The driver was able to call for help and stopped near the intersection Livingston and Linwood Avenues where officers located the driver and the victim, Marable said.
Anyone with information regarding either incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
