COLUMBUS – Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was found outside a duplex near Wrexham Park on the Hilltop Monday afternoon.
Officers called to the rear of a duplex on Belvidere Avenue at approximately 5:38 p.m. on a report that a man had collapsed in the backyard found Alonzo Matthew Edwards unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound, homicide unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.
Edwards, 26, was taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital where he died at approximately 10:52 p.m., Strayer said.
Witnesses told investigators the shooting happened on Wrexham Avenue just north of the entrance to Wrexham Park, he said.
This is the 41st homicide of the year in Columbus.
