COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Police say a man who drove into a pond at a central Ohio apartment complex was pulled from the water by divers but died.
The Columbus Dispatch reports Kevin Witt, 25, called 911 around 2 a.m. on Monday and told a dispatcher he had driven into a pond at a complex on the city’s Far East side.
WBNS-TV reports the divers pulled the unresponsive man from the 20-foot-deep pond within about 10 minutes and searched it further but did not find anyone else. Witt was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It wasn’t immediately clear why he drove his vehicle into the water. He was the city’s 54th traffic fatality this year.
