COLUMBUS – Fire officials say there were no smoke detectors in an East Side home where a man died in an overnight fire.
The Columbus Division of Fire has a hotline for people that need alarms: 614-724-0935

Firefighters arrived on the scene of a fire in a story-and-a-half wood frame home at 115 S. Weyant Avenue at 1:45 a.m. Friday to find fire coming through the roof in the rear of the structure, Battalion Chief Steve Martin said.
During the initial search of the structure, firefighters found Michael Gwinn, who was taken to OSU Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, Martin said.
Martin says the house was locked and its burglar alarm activated when firefighters arrived and forced their way in but there were no smoke alarms and it appears that Gwinn, 54, woke up in his bed surrounded by heavy smoke and tried to escape the home but was overcome and collapsed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
