COLUMBUS – An 18-year-old man found shot to death in the parking lot of an East Side apartment building early Tuesday was wounded several blocks away and was driven by a friend to the spot where he died.

Officers were called to the rear of the West Bexley Apartments, 1551 Bryden Road, at 2:37 a.m. by someone who had brought a wounded friend to the location, Sgt. Jeff Strayer of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.
The officers found Jamareil Caldwell unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound and Columbus paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Strayer said
Detectives determined that Caldwell and an acquaintance were in the area of Fairwood Avenue near Kent Street at approximately 2:23 a.m. when multiple gunshots were reported and that Caldwell was struck by the gunfire.
Strayer says the acquaintance drove Caldwell back to the parking lot where he called police.
The investigation continues.
