COLUMBUS – A man currently serving a prison term for an armed robbery will face additional charges now that his victim has died, more than six years after the crime.

Columbus homicide detectives and Franklin County prosecutors are considering whether to file additional charges against Lamonte Richardson following the death of Brandon Coleman, shot by Richardson during a robbery in April 2011, Homicide Unit Sgt. Dave Sicilian said.
Coleman, 33, died Saturday at The Manor of Whitehall Convalescent Care Center where he had been admitted and placed in hospice care in August 2016, suffering from injuries sustained in the robbery, Sicilian said.
Following an autopsy, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office ruled Coleman’s death a homicide.
Just before 1:00 on the afternoon of April 28, 2011, officers and medics found Coleman suffering from a gunshot wound in his back, which left him paralyzed, at 2776 E. 5th Avenue, Sicilian said.
Coleman was taken to Grant Medical Center and told investigators Richardson had “robbed” him, Sicilian said.
Richardson was arrested by Robbery Unit detectives later and eventually sentenced on charges of felonious assault and “weapons under disability,” a charge usually filed against someone illegally in possession of a firearm, Sicilian said.
The investigation continues.
Coleman is the 91st homicide victim in Columbus in 2017.
