Man dies when car ends up in creek

COLUMBUS – Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal one-vehicle accident on the North Side Monday.

A passerby called 911 at approximately 10:00 a.m. to report that a vehicle had driven off the exit ramp from I-270 westbound to State Route 315 northbound and appeared to be partially submerged in a creek, Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said.

Officers with the Sharon Township and Perry Township police departments and deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded and found a 2003 silver Honda Accord in the stream with a single occupant, Baldwin said.

Brandon Garcia, 23, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics from the Worthington Division of Fire at 10:01 a.m., Baldwin said.

Authorities do not know how Garcia’s vehicle left the roadway or what time the accident occurred. The incident remains under investigation.

Baldwin says anyone with information related to the crash should contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit at 614-525-6113.
