Man found dead inside East Side apartment

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police were looking for clues after an out-of-state 911 caller alerted them to an apparent homicide inside an East apartment.

According to a police dispatcher, a caller from outside of the state asked for officers to be dispatched to an apartment at 580 Canterbury Way at 10:30 p.m. where the caller’s mother had claimed a friend was bleeding.

When officers arrived and found the apartment locked, they made a forced-entry and found Michael Gossett inside, suffering from lacerations to his head, Homicide Unit detectives said.

Gossett, 35, was pronounced deceased at scene.

This was the 85th homicide of 2014 in Columbus.
