A health care professional had been to 10 Mithoff Street at approximately 1:30 p.m. to check on the well-being of a client when the suspect answered the door with a gun and pointed it at the victim, police spokesman Sgt. James Fuqua.
The victim fled the scene and contacted officers on the phone. When the officers attempted to make contact, the suspect barricaded himself in the home, Fuqua said.
SWAT arrived on the scene and after numerous attempts to convince the suspect to come out of the house over the course of several hours, Fuqua says officers used tools to get inside the house to further communicate but when they made entry, they were confronted by the suspect.
SWAT officers fired their guns and took the suspect into custody, Fuqua said.
The man was taken to Grant Medical Center in serious condition.
The Division of Police Critical Incident Response Team and Crime Scene Search Unit processed the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
No officers were hurt, Fuqua said.
