COLUMBUS – Columbus is on pace to finish the first nine months of 2020 with the highest number of homicides for the same period of any year in its history. And there are still two days left in the ninth month.
A 22-year-old man who was shot inside a Southeast Side home Monday evening became the city’s 114th homicide victim of the year so far, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.
There were 99 homicides through Sept. 28, 2017, the year when Columbus recorded a record 143 homicides for the year. There were 81 homicides at this point in 2018 and 81 last year, police said.
Officers responding to the 800 block of Forrest Street, where ShotSpotter technology reported multiple gunshots in the area, at 6:13 p.m. were directed to a home at 858 S. 22nd Street where Pilya says a round had entered the house through the front window and struck Larenz Glover, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police released no information concerning suspects. The investigation continues.
