COLUMBUS – Police say an argument between a man and a woman outside a Hilltop duplex earl Friday escalated into a brawl that ended in a fatal shooting.
Detectives say Matthew Sloan and his girlfriend were fighting at a duplex in the 600 block of Wrexham Avenue at approximately 12:43 a.m. when several other people became involved in the altercation, including another woman who produced a handgun and shot Sloan, 28, in the chest, Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.
Sloan was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m., Strayer said.
Strayer says, based on witness accounts and other evidence, investigators did not file charges against the woman, whose name was not released, but says the investigation continues.
This is the 96th homicide of 2018 in Columbus.
