COLUMBUS – A man who apparently died in a shootout on an East Side street corner Monday became the 58th homicide victim of the year in Columbus where murders are on pace to fall short of meeting last year’s record high total.
UPDATE 7/5/18 8:18 a.m.: The victim was identified as: Larry Scott Knapp Jr., 30.
As of June 30, there had been 57 homicides in Columbus in 2018. Last year, the city recorded 143 murders.

Officers and paramedics responding to a report of a shooting near an apartment building on Zettler Road at 6:17 p.m. found the man on the northeast corner of Zetter Road and Bexvie Avenue, suffering from a gunshot wound, said Homicide Unit first shift supervisor Sgt. Dave Sicilian.
The man, whose name was not released early Tuesday morning pending notification of family, was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and died at 7:26 p.m.
Sicilian says investigators believe the victim shot in the rear of 1766 Zettler Road by an unknown person and may have exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The investigation continues.
