Man killed in crash on I-71 near Polaris

COLUMBUS – A man was killed Tuesday night when the car he was in was struck while it sat on a North Side interstate.

The man and a 31-year-old woman were in the Hyundai Elantra, which was stopped in the northbound lanes of I-71 between I-270 and Polaris Parkway at 8:08 p.m. when Columbus police say it was hit by a Honda Accord driven by Kelsey Watson, 18, of Ashland.

The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of next-of-kin, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit said.

No other injuries were reported.

The interstate was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.
