Man killed, marshal’s deputy wounded in shooting

COLUMBUS — Authorities say a man exchanged gunfire with members of a U.S. Marshal’s task force serving a warrant inside a home on the Southeast Side Wednesday morning.

The man was killed and a deputy was wounded, according to Columbus police and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Members of the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Task Force were arresting a suspect in a home in the 2700 block of Four Seasons Drive at around 9:20 a.m. when another individual opened fire on officers from a closet, striking a deputy marshal was struck in the upper torso, according to a release from the Marshals Service.

At least one officer returned fire, and the man was shot at least once. He was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

The deputy marshal was undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the release said.

The names of the suspects and the deputy were not released.

The investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
