Man killed, teen injured in separate shootings

COLUMBUS – Columbus police officers found themselves under fire as they responded to a fatal shooting in a Northeast Side apartment complex Monday afternoon.

It was the most serious of four shooting incidents reported in less than 12 hours, including one that injured a teenager.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired on Soldera Drive just before 1:30 p.m. heard an argument and gunshots and were shot at when they investigated, according to a post on the Division of Police Twitter feed. No officers were injured and they did not return fire, the post said.

At the scene, the officers found evidence of a shootout and a maintenance worker at the apartment complex reported discovering an injured man inside an apartment, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.

Curtis Davis, 41, was pronounced dead later at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Pilya said.

He was the 76th homicide victim of 2020.

A 13-year-old boy was in stable condition after being shot in the arm while inside a home on the Northeast Side late Monday night. Police say the shooting happened in the 2400 block of Taylor Avenue at approximately 11:51 p.m.

A drive-by shooting on the Northeast Side sent a 21-year-old man to the hospital, where he is expected to recover from his injures, police said. Donovan Lewis was standing with his brother outside a home in the 1100 block of E. 26th Avenue at about 11:12 p.m. when someone in a vehicle fired several shots from the alley behind the home.

Officers responding to gunshots being fired in the 2300 block of Edenburg Drive South at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday found a home that had been struck by about 100 bullets. No one was injured, according to a Twitter post.

There were no suspects named in any of the incidents.
