COLUMBUS – Police say a man killed his live-in girlfriend at their home on the Southeast Side early Monday morning before driving to a nearby park where he took his own life.

Officers dispatched to the Retreat at Turnberry Metro Park, 11680 Refugee Road, at approximately 8:10 a.m. on a report of a possible suicide found Jason Kaufman dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to homicide unit Sgt. Dave Sicilan
Less than an hour later, officers went to a home on Southern Hills Drive, slightly over a mile away, on a report of a woman who was also found deceased. Sicilian says the officers and fire personnel confirmed that April Caleodis was dead inside of the home.
The investigation indicated that Caleodis, 31, was Kaufman’s girlfriend and that Kaufman, 31, murdered her before driving to the park where he committed suicide.
The motive behind the murder-suicide is unknown as the investigation continues, Sicilian said.
