COLUMBUS – An elderly Southeast Side man shot his 19-year-old granddaughter to death outside the home they shared late Wednesday night, apparently mistaking her for an intruder.

Columbus Police officers called to a home in the 1200 block of Berkeley Road at 10:52 p.m. on a report of a shooting found Jordan Williams lying in the front yard suffering from a gunshot wound, Homicide Unit second third shift supervisor Sgt. Jeff Strayer said.
Advised that an armed person was still inside the house, officers moved Williams to safety and Columbus Fire paramedics took her to Grant Medical Center where she died shortly after arrival, Strayer said.
Detectives determined that Williams had forgotten the keys to the home had tried to wake her grandfather, 72-year-old Booker Moody, by knocking on his bedroom window when Moody fired a shot through the window without realizing it was his granddaughter, Strayer said.
Moody was charged with murder but Strayer says the investigation is continuing.
This is the 68th Homicide in Columbus in 2018.
