COLUMBUS – The state is investigating a shooting involving a Columbus police officer that left a man in serious but stable condition Sunday afternoon.

Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Wilson Avenue, on the Southeast Side, at approximately 3:05 p.m., according to a release from the Division of Police.
A man identified as Michael Cleveland got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
An officer identified as Ofc. Joshua Ohlinger, a five-year veteran of the Division of Police, gave chase and discharged their firearm, striking Cleveland.
Officers rendered first aid until medics arrived and took Cleveland, 66, to an area hospital, where he was charged with having weapons while under disability, police said.
A firearm was recovered near the scene and officers detained additional occupants from inside the vehicle.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
Homicide detectives investigate injuries to toddler
Columbus Homicide Unit detectives were investigating an assault on a 2-year-old girl who was taken to Nationwide Childrens Hospital Saturday night after suffering from cardiac arrest, Sgt. David Shimberg said.
Hospital staff told officers responding to a report of a suspicious injury or possible neglect that the girl had visible injuries, and was not expected to recover, Shimberg said.
This incident remains under investigation.
