Man sentenced in murder of witnesses

COLUMBUS – A Columbus man was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for his role in the murder of two women who were witnesses to the drug-related torture-slaying of one of the victim’s son.

Michael Favors pleaded guilty in November 2018 to his role in the murders of Sidney Campbell and Marie Stamp, who had witnessed the death of Campbell’s son at the hands of a drug dealer, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.

Antwan Hutchinson is serving a life sentence for the murder of Cody Campbell in 2017. Authorities say Hutchinson was the ringleader of a drug operation that sold cocaine, heroin, oxycodone and marijuana from various “trap houses” around Columbus.

Hutchinson and others believed Campbell had allowed one of the drug houses to be robbed so he went to Sidney Campbell’s home where he beat Cody Campbell with a two-by-four and whipped him with an electrical cord. Cody Campbell died later of his injuries, according to U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman’s office.

Sidney Campbell had witnessed her son’s death and Favors, 27, accompanied Hutchinson to Campbell’s home where he shot her and Stamp.

Favors pleaded guilty to five counts, including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, two counts of conspiracy to murder a witness, and two counts of murder through use of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

He was sentenced to 365 months in prison, Glassman said.
