Man shoots at police during highway chase, kills himself

WEST CHESTER (AP) — Police in southwest Ohio say a motorist being pursued on I-75 as a suspected impaired driver shot and killed himself.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says police gave chase northbound in the northern Cincinnati suburb of Evendale at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday. It ended minutes later when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail in West Chester near Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

Police say it appears the driver had fired shots through the back window of his vehicle at some point, then shot himself after his car crashed. The Highway Patrol says the police in pursuit didn’t fire any shots.

Full and partial closures of I-75 during the investigation caused miles-long backups that continued into morning commute hours in the suburban area.

No other information about the driver was released immediately.
