COLUMBUS – Columbus police say a man who shot his girlfriend during a domestic dispute took his own life when police arrived on the scene at a Northeast Side apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Daral Hall shot Maranda Hatfield while the two were arguing in an apartment on Sierra Ridge Drive in the Greenhill Village Apartments, according to Det. Glenn Bray of the Homicide Unit.
Officers responding to the call at approximately 2:25 p.m. were met by Hatfield, 29, who had fled to the outside of the residence, Bray said.
She was taken to a hospital where she was treated for gunshot wounds to the face and hand, Bray said.
A second gunshot was heard and Bray says police were unable to establish communications with Hall, 37, and a S.W.A.T. barricade response was instituted. When S.W.A.T. personnel finally entered the residence, Bray says the found unresponsive with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus paramedics, Bray said.
