COLUMBUS – Police say a Northeast Side man shot and wounded his own son after mistaking him for an intruder.
At first, Biyaga Ceesay told officers that a stranger had shot his son at approximately 6:00 a.m. Tuesday at the family home on Skywae Drive but admitted later that he accidentally shot his son because he thought he was an intruder trying to rob the family, investigators said.
The boy is hospitalized in stable condition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover.
Ceesay, 51, has been charged with domestic violence, assault and child endangerment.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man is recovering after being shot in the back yard of his Hilltop home where he was standing with a woman and a 7-week-old baby, detectives said.
Ronald McNichols told police he and Brittany Whitaker, 19, were standing outside his home in the 2600 block of W. Broad Street just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when someone in a white or gray two-door Honda shot him as the car drove by.
He was listed in stable condition.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Assault Unit at 614-645-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477 (TIPS).
