COLUMBUS – A man shot by a security guard who says Christopher Wilkes tried to run him down earlier this month has died, but no charges have been filed against the guard, according to Columbus homicide detectives.

On Dec. 8, police say the 25-year-old whose name has not been released was working as a security guard at the Park Trails Apartments on the Far Southeast Side at approximately 8:23 p.m., when Wilkes tried to run over him with a vehicle and the guard opened fire, hitting Wilkes in the upper body, homicide unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.
The guard was apparently helping a woman who claimed Wilkes had assaulted her when Wilkes tried to run the man down, Latta said.
Wilkes was found in his wrecked vehicle and taken to Grant Medical Center where he died Tuesday evening, Latta said.
The security guard is a valid weapon permit holder and cooperated with this investigation.
This is the 101st homicide of 2016, Latta said.
