COLUMBUS – Police are investigating the 25th homicide of the year in Columbus, the death of a man investigators think was fatally wounded during a fight on the South Side Thursday night.
Officers responding to possible shooting in the area of S. High Street and E Innis Avenue at 9:50 p.m. found Demarion Alexander lying outside a building in the 1700 Block of S. High Street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Columbus homicide Unit said.
Alexander, 18, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Despite receiving emergency medical care, he was pronounced deceased at 10:22 p.m., Shimberg said.
Detectives believe Alexander was involved in an altercation with an unknown suspect at the time of the shooting, Shimberg said.
