Man shot to death yards away from previous murder

COLUMBUS – Columbus homicide detectives are investigating the second murder in less than a week on a single block of a North Linden street.

A deadly shooting Tuesday happened a dozen houses away from where a Zanesville man was found shot to death on Sept. 19. (Google Maps)

Officers called to the rear of 973 Moon Road at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday found Desmond Johnson sitting inside a parked vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Sgt. Jeffrey Strayer of the Homicide Unit said.

Columbus paramedics pronounced Johnson, 28, dead at the scene.

The initial investigation was unable to determine any motive or suspects, Strayer said.

The investigation continues.

This is the 78th homicide of 2019 in Columbus.

The shooting happened a dozen houses away from where Ernest Chen, 52, of Zanesville, was found shot to death inside an apartment at 857 Moon Road late on the night of Sept. 19.
