Man uses son as human shield

CANTON (AP) – Police say a 27-year-old man was arrested in northeast Ohio after he threw an airsoft gun at officers and used his son as a shield to keep them away.

The Repository newspaper in Canton reports police were called for a man threatening to kill himself around 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say the Canton man threw a handgun at officers, who didn’t realize it was an airsoft gun. He then used his young son as a shield to keep police away from him.

Police used a stun gun to subdue the man and took him to a hospital for treatment.

The man is facing charges of obstructing official business and possession of criminal tools.
