Man’s abduction of infant prompts Amber Alert

COLUMBUS – A 27-year-old man was captured in a wooded area outside Mansfield Wednesday, hours after he pistol-whipped the mother of his infant son and drove away with the child, triggering a statewide Amber Alert.

Robert Beane allegedly stole a car in Elyria and drove to a home in Lorain where he assault the mother of his 10-month-old son and took the boy, police said.

He crashed the car on Mansfield Lucas Road in Richland County shortly after 1:15 p.m., and fled on foot with the boy, according to a report in the Mansfield News-Journal.

The child was recovered and Beane was captured around 6:30 p.m. in a wooded area approximately a half-mile away, the newspaper reported.

The report says Beane has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, having weapons while under disability and theft.
