COLUMBUS – Columbus police are looking for a man they think shot Jaime Martinez to death early Tuesday morning and left his body in a pool of blood behind a garbage dumpster in the parking lot of a Northeast Side apartment complex.
Officers dispatched to Pinetree Street North at 6:45 a.m. found Martinez, 39, dead from a gunshot wound, Homicide Unit Sgt. David Sicilian said.
Witnesses told detectives they noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the driveway, partially blocking it, almost four hours earlier and that they saw another male Hispanic in the area of the garbage dumpster, wearing a dark colored t-shirt, Sicilian said.
The investigation continues.
This is the 48th homicide in Columbus in 2016.
Anyone with any additional information on the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS (8477).
