The $113 million project, aimed at reducing congestion, will take three years with completion planned for the fall of 2020, according to officials with the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Work officially began this Sunday with one lane of I-71 closed overnight between Stringtown Road and Frank Road. Starting Wednesday, one lane of I-71 south will be closed. These overnight lane closures between Stringtown Road and Frank Road are expected to last all week.
The project will include widening both directions of I-71 between State Route 315 and Stringtown Road and replacing or relocating five bridges. The I-71 southbound/I-270 Interchange will be reconfigured, a new ramp from I-71 south to Stringtown Road will be constructed and the ramp from I-270 east to I-71 south will be relocated.
Several ramps will be closed during the project, with detour signs posted to assist motorists. At least one week prior notification will be provided before the ramp is closed using portable message boards and email alerts.
In addition to the widening work, the $113 million project also includes major bridge work over I-270, Big Run Creek, Frank Road and Greenlawn Avenue and interchange improvements at I-270 and I-71.
