Melting + raining = flood risk

COLUMBUS, Ohio – It’s beginning to look more like spring than Christmas in central Ohio, at least for the weekend.

Forecasters say warmer temperatures throughout much of the state will be accompanied by possibly heavy rain and the chance of flooding.

The National Weather Service say 50-degree temperatures will melt snow and 2-4 inches of rain could push rivers and streams over their banks and flood backyards. Flood Watches are in effect for central Ohio through Sunday evening.

The weather service says rainfall totals could be as high as four inches in some areas with the heaviest amounts on Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to drop again next week with the possibility of light flurries.
